Syd Mead Visual Futurist and Industrial Designer has passed at his home in Pasadena at the age of 86. He left us peacefully accompanied by his partner Roger Servick surrounded by a gentle fire, Christmas decorations, and a wonderful array of his artwork. His final words were, “I am done here. They’re coming to take me back.”
Syd lived an incredible life starting as an artist at the tender age of three. He quickly developed his skills into cartoons, auto designs, and eventually futuristic visions for cult classic films such as Star Trek: The Motion Picture, TRON 1982, Blade Runner, Aliens, 2010: A Space Odyssey, Short Circuit, and countless others.
“I am done here. They’re coming to take me back.”
Syd Mead’s final words
Oblagon, Inc. recently published Syd’s Autobiography “A Future Remembered” where Syd documents in his own words his amazing journey from a midwest Baptist preacher son to a highly recognized Visual Futurist.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Cherished Memory of Syd Mead to the CITY of HOPE.
